John "Flip" Joseph Dwyer
September 15, 1926 - June 9, 2017
John Joseph Flip Dwyer, age 90, formerly of Harrison, passed away on Friday, June 9, 2017 at home in Forked River. Born in East Newark, he lived in Harrison most of his life before moving to Forked River in 1987. John retired from the Town of Harrison in 1987 as the Street Commissioner after 44 years of service to his hometown. He was a US Navy Veteran serving in WWII, and a member of the VFW and the Elks. John loved spending time with his family and living on the water. John is predeceased by his sisters, Dorothy Lawlor and Rita Brown, and his daughter-in-law, Cynthia Dwyer. Surviving are his beloved wife of 67 years, Dolores; his children; Colleen Dwyer, Jacqueline (Vahe) Kandarjian, and John Dwyer; his 7 grandchildren; Ian, Colin, John V, Ryan, Caitlyn, Christian, and Bridget; and many nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are invited to visit on Sunday, June 11, 2017 from 4pm until 8pm at Lacey Memorial Home 1022 Lacey Road, Forked River, NJ. A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, June 12, 2017 at 10:30am at Holy Cross Catholic Church, Harrison. Burial will follow in Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery, North Arlington. Donations may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project in memory of John.
